Sometimes repair of garbage disposals means drain cleaning

  • Waste gets stuck along the waste line and clogs. One of the biggest problems is that grease and oil go down, combine with food waste and form a blockage. Call us quickly.
  • Did you know that acid based drain cleaners melt the grease but it solidifies again farther down the line?

Sometimes the blades stop spinning

  • This may mean someone has dropped a fork, fruit pit or bone down the chute, and the blades are jammed. PLEASE don’t put your hand down. Blades are sharp and accidents happen.
  • There are numerous mechanical parts in a modern disposal. If one fails, call us. We are expert at identifying what went wrong, and which parts to replace.

Replacing garbage disposals, or if your sink doesn’t have one

We install the major brands and will advise you on the choice that’s right for you. You will have it installed according to manufacturer specifications. If you’ve made a choice from your local home improvement store, we are happy to put it in for you to ensure it’s working perfectly.
If it’s the first unit in your current sink, come to us. If it takes a replacement sink or a new drain pipe, it’s all a part of our full residential plumbing service.

A garbage disposal can last many years without major repair. But when grease, large objects, hard bits and pieces, or foods with fibers go in, we’ll get them out.

Choosing garbage disposals

Homeowners increasingly choose an auto-reverse model; when the blades spin backward, jams may clear. Some are better than others at chewing up difficult waste.

You have a choice of two fundamental kinds:

Continuous-feed: This means you can keep adding new stuff as waste you have already pushed in is grinding and flushing down the drain.

Batch-feed: they can take more time to use, since you load it with waste before turning it on. You must put in the stopper before activating the blades. The stopper keeps food shards in and little hands out. Some homeowners with children prefer batch-feed models.
