The city of Aurora is perfectly situated only 15 minutes away from Denver. It has over 144 square miles of land, making it a perfect place for businesses, residential living and overall fun. History of Aurora
In the 1880's, Aurora was known as Fletcher. It was named after a Chicago resident by the name of Donald Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher had his eyes on this town because he believed it was a great real estate investment opportunity. However, after the Silver Crash of 1893, the town struggled to stay afloat. Mr. Fletcher disappeared and left the town in debt.
The early 1900's were a time of change and growth for Aurora. In 1907, the residents of Fletcher decided to change the town's name to Aurora. In 1921, the United States government decided that Aurora was the perfect location for Fitzsimons Army Hospital. However, during the Great Depression, Fitzsimons Army Hospital was at risk of being shut down due to cuts in military expenditures. However, a visit from President Roosevelt prevented that from happening. President Roosevelt was so impressed with the medical facility that he approved funds for its improvement. In 1929, Aurora had over 2,000 residents, the Secretary of State of Colorado realized that Aurora had potential for a city, and tax revenues were approved for roads, fire stations, and sewers.
During the mid 1940's Aurora was quickly becoming a fast growing city. In 1942, The Army Air Corps built Buckley field. The presence of Buckley filed, enhanced the military presence, which, resulted in more jobs, residential living, and capital for Aurora. By the time 1960 arrived, Aurora already had over 50,000 residents. When the 1970's arrived, Aurora was more prosperous than ever, due to new highway construction that made it easy for travel and created jobs. The city of Aurora continued to see economic growth throughout the 1990's, however, the prosperity of the town was threatened because of possibilities of closing air force bases that contributed to the states economic growth.
